- Aesthetic ideology and cultural formation (Paul de Man and ReymondWilliams).
We have been making researches on the actuality of politics involved in the fin de siècleEnglish aesthetic criticism such as Walter Pater and Oscar Wilde, considering them asdeviant successors of Romanticism and precursor of Modernism. Such an aestheticism, sharing some aspects with French Symbolism, is sometimes considered as having astrong affinity for anarchism and fascism. The subtle relationship between aesthetics andpolitics, which is based what Paul de Man called “aesthetic ideology”, is to be examinednot only through the language of literary and philosophy but also by analyzing modernculture as a whole.
